The beginning
The first time I had a tarot session was when I was 14 years old. I remember the violet cloth on which the cards whose meaning I could not interpret until I discovered my deck and guided by my own intuition were displayed. At that moment I only saw characters that interacted with each other, whose symbology served as a guide to unveil the present state and the queries made.
From that first roll I knew that one day I had to have my own cards. The search for the deck is important in relation to the tarotist. He has to feel linked with the same for his interpretation. The cards represent a means by which one obtains knowledge of the relation between the spiritual and the earthly world of the consultant.
The tarot deck
The tarot deck has 78 cards, of which there are 22 major and 56 minor arcana. Starting with the major arcana, number 1 is The Magician. According to Jodorowsky represents “the beginning, the look of the initiated”. The first lesson that gives us is the arrival of something new in the life of the consultant.
As a picture we see a man, sorcerer, whose feet are firmly on the ground and his gaze out of the card, glimpsing a new beginning.
- The red color of his garments indicates the supreme power and presence of the Rebis. The presence of the white speaks of the purity of his thoughts. His belt can be interpreted as the Ouroboros, the snake that eats its own tail. His hat contains the form of infinity which reflects initiation and superior knowledge.
- Beyond the human figure, we see that there are elements that interact with the magician. First we note that it holds a rod. It is considered magical and is the channel between the earthly and the spiritual.
- On the other hand, we see a table that represents his work, the laboratory (linked with alchemy and the development of the Great Work). On it are four objects: the wands, a gold coin, the sword and a cup. These represent the 4 elements, fire, earth, air and water over which he has dominion.
In front of our consultant
The Magician tells us about our work. It tells us that we can undertake new projects and these will lead us to positive results. If we speak of a person, then he tells us that he is someone with an independent spirit, hardworking, with the possibility of growing in life. When we see it inverted, we will see that the Magician’s eyes look angry. This tells us about a person’s temperament or emotional state.
Numerology
According to numerology, number one tells us about an initial and primordial force, the beginning of a new cycle. It communicates a great masculine force on the part of the consultant, which is reflected in the very figure of the magician.
To conclude
In conclusion, the first arcane, The Magician, reflects the initial force and the impulse to launch into something new. It relates to both the work and the energy of the consultant. Beyond its symbolism and representation, it is necessary to consider that the interpretation of any tarot card will be conditioned by its position (right or inverted), its relation with the rest of the cards that surround it, by the style of the roll and Query question.
