The door to the heavenly world
When a man receives the call he must respond to Him. The mission of our High Priest is to transmit the divine message to the multitudes. As the Emperor is strength and power, the Pope is wisdom and faith. Unlike the Great Priestess who is immersed in reading to absorb knowledge, the Pope preaches the teachings that were granted.
Visually this card has different symbolic elements:
- First of all, with his left hand he holds a three-tiered vase representing the three theological virtues (faith, hope, and charity) and the three worlds (matter, sex, and emotions) together with his creative potential.
- On his head we observe a miter, which has four levels representing the four stages of being.
- His papal tiara tells us that he is the one who exercises power over the three levels of the cosmos: heavenly, earthly and infernal.
- In the background we see two columns that are the entrance to the temple of Solomon. The Pope is the guardian of the knowledge and secrets found in it.
- Dress red, blue and gold. Their sleeves are white as they are a representation of their purity. Blue and gold are the colors of wisdom, although red is present to indicate that after a state of decision making has to be carried out an action. His disciples symbolize the two paths of knowledge; Active and passive.
In front of our consultant
In a reading it may represent that we are in a process of solving a situation. If we are asking for another person, this is influenced as a positive guide since it is a being with many values and ideals. In turn, it can speak of divine protection, where enlightened beings are accompanying us in decision-making. It also represents important events, like a marriage. Inverted, it speaks to us of restrictions and inability to assume our responsibilities which entails seeing ourselves in situations that present many obstacles.
Numerology
The Pope represents number five. This number is the way to knowledge and wisdom. It leads us to establish an inner connection between heaven and earth. It tells us about the process in which once the norms have been learned, it will be up to us to decide for ourselves how to act. The Pope is the result of the union of the emperor and the magician (5 = 4 + 1).
To Conclude
The Pope does not tell us what to do or how to do it. It is he who invites us into a state of reflection before taking action. It is no coincidence that he is astrologically linked to Taurus, a sign that tells us that we must distance ourselves before making decisions in order to analyze all our possibilities. The High Priest preaches that each of us has the knowledge to discern between right and wrong. It proposes that we become aware of the teachings that our experiences give us since revelation arises from the light within us.
